Summer Clothing

Keeping your child safe and comfortable in hot weather

Heat Sensitivity

Babies and small children are more sensitive to high temperatures than adults.

Babies cannot yet sweat and therefore cannot regulate their own body temperature.

Small children are still learning to understand their bodily sensations and are not yet able to judge when it is too warm or too sunny for them.

Baby Sun Protection

Babies in particular should spend as little time as possible in the sun and wear long clothing, as their sensitive skin means they should not yet be covered in sun cream.

Best Times for Walks: Walks with babies are best taken in the early morning or evening, as the sun is already high in the sky by 10 a.m. and it gets very warm very quickly.

Clothing Recommendations

  • UV Protection Clothing: Clothing with UV protection
  • Lightweight Fabrics: Lightweight fabrics made from natural materials
  • Sun Hat: Sun hat with neck protection (preferably also with UV protection)
  • Sunglasses: Sunglasses to protect small children's eyes
  • Stroller Sun Protection: Sun protection on the stroller: parasol or sun shade

Stroller Safety Warning

Important Warning!

Do not hang cloth diapers, blankets, or towels in front of the stroller: there is a risk of overheating!
